    • Copy the .usz file to your USB, in the root directory.

  2. VMC7/10 use either book size or COMBI drives. while VMC12/14 use book size drives. To configure the machine for the correct drive type: Go to [Setup] > [Machine Data] > [General MD] > [Search]. Enter 17400 at the prompt and press [Input]. Make sure the title is listed correctly for the machine type being updated.

    • We have one deployment file (.usz) for six VMCsi machine models. The deployment file identifies the VMCsi model based on General MD 17400[0]. Refer to the picture for different values of 17400[0] corresponding to different VMCsi machine types.

    • The parameter for 17400[0] must exactly match the file name in the chart, without any additional letters or symbols. This value is case-sensitive.

    • If you press Cancel, you will see the Reset (po) button. Press that button after changing the 17400[0] parameter.

  3. To set Date and Time: Go to [Setup] > [HMI] > [Date time].

    • Adjust if Necessary: Update correct time, click [Accept], then [OK].

  4. Go to [Machine], verify if measurement is in [inch] or [mm] at the position.

    • If you need to change the measurement to inch: Go to [Settings] on [Page 2], press [Changeover inch].

    • Confirm the machine is now set to [inch].

  5. Close the machine door. Turn on both the [JOG] and [REF. POINT] buttons on the control panel. Press and hold the [MAG] button, and then press the [+] button to reference the tool magazine.

    • Check position: Go to [Tool List] , verify the position of the green open arrow and the pot number in the tool change position in the magazine. They should both match.

    • Press [JOG] button on control panel to disable REF mode.

    • Adjust if Necessary: If the pot position in the magazine and the tool table green arrow do not show the same number, perform a tool change for the first pocket.

  6. Go to [Setup] > [TrakMT Options], verify the status of the fourth axis.

    • If it is disabled, skip to step 8.

    • If it is enabled, it must be disabled before running the deployment file.

    • Disable the 4th Axis: Press [E-Stop], disconnect 4th Axis motor & encoder cables.

    • Press [Select 4thAxis Option] > [Disable] > [Update 4th Axis].

    • You must power cycle the machine before continuing.

  7. Set Manufacture Password. Go to [Setup] > [2nd Page] > [Setup Archive] > [All data of this machine] .

    • (1) Make sure all boxes are checked.

    • (2) Select the [Archive name] data field. Name the file: Backup_NPDHS-YYYY-MM-DD_BEFORE_UPGRADE. Press [OK].

    • Note: YYYY-MM-DD is the current date e.g. June 26 2023 is written as 2023-06-26 in the archive name.

    • The default storage path should be [Archives/Manufacturer]. If the storage path is anything other than the default, you can change it by pressing [Change storage path] > [Archive Manufacturer] >[OK].

  8. Release [E-Stop] on both machine control panel and pulse generator. Press [RESET]. Power off machine. Remove pendant rear cover.

    • (1) Insert USB at the rear of the pendant below the switch. (2) Move the switch from [RUN] to [Stop].

    • Power up machine.

    • After power on: (1) Click down arrow to get machine list. (2) Select the machine in use. (3) Press [Next].

    • The background on the screen will turn yellow and the software update will start. It will take approximately 15-25 minutes. When the upgrade is done Press [OK].

    • Operations done during expert upgrade process are; log in, take initial backup, upgrade CNC software to 6.15, upgrade PLC, drive and system archives, update machine data parameters to latest settings, copy files on the control, create the resulting archive.

  9. From the rear of the pendant, remove the USB and switch to [Run].

    • Power cycle machine.

    • Set Manufacturers Password

    • Verify date and time. Go to [Setup] > [HMI] > [Date time]. Adjust if necessary.

    • Reference the Magazine as you did in step 6: Turn on both the [JOG] and [REF. POINT] buttons on the control panel.

    • Press and hold the [MAG] button, and then press the [+] button to reference the tool magazine.

  10. Go to [Setup] > [TrakMT Options]
    • Go to [Setup] > [TrakMT Options]

    • Enable the 4th Axis: Press E-Stop, reconnect 4th Axis motor & encoder cables.

    • Press [Select 4thAxis Option] > [Enable] > [Update 4th Axis].

  11. Set Manufacture Password.

    • Go to [Setup] > [2nd Page] > [Setup Archive] > [All data of this machine].

    • (1) Make sure all five components are selected with a check box.

    • (2) Select the [Archive name] data field. Name the file: Backup_NPDHS-YYYY-MM-DD_AFTER_UPGRADE. Press [OK].

  12. The contents of the USB are displayed here after deployment. The HTML file is highlighted. Open the HTML file listed on the USB on the Siemens control or by opening on a browser on a computer.

    • It is important to look towards the bottom of the file checking for the [errors] and [faults] fields. They should be [0] otherwise report to engineering.

  13. Go to the TRAK network and find the specified directory on SharePoint as shown. Create a new directory with Mach type_SWIserial number_PJ Serial_OldPLC_Location.  If VMCsi has a COMBI drive, add COMBI to directory name. New PLC applies to VMCsi not the TCsi.

    • Copy five items to new directory: (1) Complete MAID directory with four files, (2) HTML file, (3 ) Text document, (4) Archived file saved at the end of step 8. (5) Archived file saved at the end of step 12.
